BWB – part of the team delivering one of London’s first housing zones – New Bermondsey
London’s Mayor, Boris Johnson, has named London's first 9 Housing Zones. In boroughs, spanning the length and breadth of the city, the new Zones will bring enormous regeneration and transform key areas of the capital. The £260m new investment will deliver 28,000 much needed new homes across 9 boroughs and BWB are proud to be an integral part of the team, led by developers Renewal, who will be delivering the New Bermondsey Zone.
The regeneration of New Bermondsey covers a 30 acre site and will provide a thriving new neighbourhood with 2,400 new homes and create over 2,000 new jobs. The Housing Zone status brings the direct involvement of the GLA with a financial investment, as well as the use of the GLA’s powers to expedite planning, the CPO process and coordinate transport infrastructure to speed up the delivery of homes within strict timeframes. The scheme will also include new community facilities, a centre for sporting excellence and the creation of a new overground rail station on the East London Line between Surrey Quays and Queens Road Peckham.
BWB’s thriving London Office has previous involvement in a growing number of landmark projects in London, including Lewisham Gateway, Millharbour Village and the Strand East project near the Olympic Park. We are immensely proud to be part of the New Bermondsey development team and to be providing expert transport advice to Renewal during the design and construction phases of the brand new London overground station at New Bermondsey. Up to £20m will be spent on the station and other transport improvements including a bus interchange with two new bus routes, cycling infrastructure and enhanced public realm.
