BWB Wins Technology Champion Award

BWB’s focus on driving digital innovation has been recognised at a prestigious industry award ceremony in London. We've been crowned Technology Champions at the recent ACE Consultancy and Engineering Awards, an event that showcases the very best that the built environment sector has to offer.

The accolade recognises the achievements of Deetu, BWB Group’s start-up business which was launched last August to drive innovation and develop digital engineering solutions. Since then Deetu has applied and developed technologies including the use of drones in surveying, using digital location intelligence to support national logistical infrastructure operations and using gamification technology to provide new insights to our designs. A key success story has been their development of FloodScreen, the only free and cross-country portal for viewing flood risk using the power of open data.

After being presented with the award, Deetu’s head of technology development Iwan Lloyd-Smith said: “This is a tremendous achievement given that Deetu has been in existence for only 10 months and that our nomination was not for a specific project but for our approach to technology and its application across all its projects. The formation of Deetu by BWB Consulting has given focus to the use of technology but also the room and scope to experiment and drive forward innovation.”

BWB also received special commendations in two other categories – best UK Business Performance for a Large Consultancy, an acknowledgement of its consistent growth, and Training Initiative of the Year, which reflects its continuing investment in the development of its people. It represents the latest in a series of major awards for BWB, which was also ranked as one of the UK's Best Companies to work for earlier this year.

Steve Wooler, BWB's chief executive, said: "It's fair to say that our trophy cabinet is beginning to burst at the seams, but every award we have received during the last year tracks back to the significant investment we've made in our business and our people. Becoming Technology Champion is particularly important in an industry where digital capabilities are transforming the way we approach, design and deliver projects on behalf of our clients. This goes beyond the technology itself – it's about the potential it unlocks for our people to do things better and differently. For me, one of the most impressive aspects of our performance is the way in which our teams have embraced new technologies and unlocked new ways of driving progress for clients.”

Dr Nelson Ogunshakin OBE, chief executive of ACE, said: "This year we had extraordinary projects, companies and individual enter into the Consultancy and Engineering Awards 2017. This year`s winners are true exemplars of what makes our industry great, raising the bar for the rest of the industry."
