RTS ‘gears up’ to grab larger slice of renewable energy sector

The Catapult Growth Fund has made a follow-up investment into Renewable Technical Services (“RTS”), the rapidly expanding ‘one-stop’ service provider to operators and owners of wind turbines.

Kettering-based RTS is using the funding to extend its range of business services. Managing Director Chris Palmer commented: “This additional investment will enable us to accelerate our future growth and allow us to take advantage of the significant commercial opportunities that exist in the marketplace.

“Since Catapult invested in 2010 we have made great strides in the development of the business and are able to offer customers a broad number of services. These include: planned and reactive servicing of wind turbines, end of construction inspections, installation of 2MW and 3MW wind turbines, statutory compliance inspections, rotor blade inspection and repair; and turbine decommissioning. We are able to offer full ‘end of warranty’ turbine inspections, have installed several MET towers for the Round 3 offshore wind farms and are now able to provide offshore wind turbine installation and inspection engineers.”

Catapult Director Duncan Cameron commented: “We are delighted to be supporting Chris and his team who have made excellent progress in moving RTS forward since our initial investment. The provision of support services to the rapidly growing renewables market is an area that we have focused on and are excited for the future prospects of RTS as they look to build on their success.

Chris Palmer added: “We have very recently become an approved supplier for rotor blade protection with Mankiewicz with our composite engineers having been trained and certified to apply a range of its products including the industry standard ALEXIT® BladeRep range.

“Looking ahead there are significant market opportunities for RTS to continue our trusted support partnerships to OEM’s and developers constructing wind farms and for owners of wind farms coming out of their warranty periods. With the provision of advanced rotor blade inspection and repairs, the full capability to offer maintenance and service support for installed onshore turbines, as well as being aligned to provide engineers to the installations and service support supply chain offshore; we look forward to the continued growth and support,” he said.
