Monica Healthcare develops advanced digital foetal monitoring technology, based on many years of research at the University of Nottingham. Monica’s first product, the AN24 demonstrated its technical superiority over existing ultrasound technology, and in 2015, Monica launched its Novii Wireless Patch System – a single-patient use wearable patch that digitally monitors maternal heart rate, foetal heart rate, and uterine activity, even on some of the most difficult to monitor patients. The company has experienced rapid growth and by 2016, Monica’s technology was used by more than 100,000 patients at approximately 1,000 sites across Europe, Asia and North America.
How did we help?
Catapult invested in Monica at inception and we have led every round of investment since. Our investment has supported the research, development, prototyping, regulatory approvals, launch and ultimately strong commercial traction of the company's devices.
Result
Catapult successfully exited Monica Healthcare in early 2017 through the sale of the company to GE Healthcare. The all cash transaction delivered a return of 3.5x for Catapult’s East Midlands Regional Venture Capital Fund.
